The National Dance Company-Ghana Dance Ensemble (NCG) and National Symphony Orchestra (NSO) has unveiled their upcoming first annual contemporary Ghanaian Music and Dance concert and symposia called: “DIEMA.”
The concert and symposium is being organised by NCG and NSO in collaboration with Ohio University to celebrate contemporary Ghanaian music and dance that would be the doorway to transform the cultural experience for the public who are inspired by art.
The theme for the event: “Ghana Meets the World,” is intended to focus on “representation, performance and teaching of Ghanaian traditional and contemporary musical arts – drumming and dance” for local amateur groups, teachers and educators.
Mrs Amy Appiah Frimpong, Executive Director of National Theatre, said the three resident groups, National Dance Company, National Drama Company and NSO within the national theatre who were seen to be independent have decided to work as one to make the event a success.
She said though the government is facing economic challenges it would be good if it could assist financially.
Mrs Frimpong explained that it would be a three night event of explosive Ghanaian music and dance at the National Theatre starting from June 18.
She noted that the rates for the event are GH₵ 50 for the Very Important People GH₵ 30 for the regular people and GH₵ 10 for students.
The Executive Director noted that the Directors of “DIEMA” 2015 are devoted to explore the increasing links in the interdisciplinary world of arts, sciences, media, and technology.
Mr Chengxin Wei from the People’s Republic of China would grace the event as the special guest artist also features the Nyoam Institute Bi–Tonic Singers and National Symphony Orchestra and Azaguno Osu Presby SHS Choir.

Mr Pascal Yao Younge, a Composer of the “DIEMA”, said seven world premieres of contemporary Ghanaian orchestral music and dance would be performed by international guest artists from the United States, Canada and the People’s Republic of China.
He said Ghana’s nationally and internationally recognised groups would also perform to thrill the audience.
 Mr Younge therefore urged everybody to come spend time and watch the performance of their lives.
