The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has expressed grave concerns about the acute shortage of registration materials in the on-going biometric registration exercise in its strongholds particularly the Volta region.
According to a statement issued by the NDC’s National Propaganda Secretary, Richard Quashigah since the start of the last phase of the exercise, most centers in the Volta region have remained non functional.
The statement added that complaints to the Electoral Commission officials have been made but the problem persists.
According to the ruling party, the shortage of forms such as 1A and 1C, cartridges, as well as laminates in their strongholds leaves them wondering whether this is a deliberate ploy particularly when such materials abound in the EC’s headquarters in Accra.
According to the NDC, their suspicion heightened because of the Director of Elections, Mr. Isaac Kofi Asomaning who happens to be the same official who superintended electoral matters in the Ashanti region in 2008 where a bloated register was recorded.
The statement further accuses Mr. Asomaning of not doing enough to rectify the situation after he had been alerted on more than one occasion.
The NDC, by their statement are appealing to Dr. Afari Gyan, the Chairman of the Electoral Commission to help resolve the challenge.
