Mr Ebenezer Terlabi, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for Oforikrom, has stated that the party was poised to wrestle the seat from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the December polls.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Kumasi, the Parliamentary Candidate hinted that the party’s conviction of annexing the seat was based on its recent massive campaigns in the constituency, which proved that the electorates were yearning for a change and comeback of the NDC.
“Wherever we go the people are rooting for our return to power, following the mismanagement of the economy and unfulfilled promises by the NPP in the seven and half years it had been in power,” he said.
He accused the NPP of not doing enough to improve the high unemployment rate among the youth in the country, saying this had in recent time compelled most of them to engage in all sorts of vices to the detriment of the nation’s development.
Mr Terlabi promised to establish Guidance and Counseling Centres in all the eight electoral areas in the Oforikrom Constituency if given the mandate in the elections, saying, these centres would be equipped to train the youth in employable skills to help facilitate their career development and capacity building.
“I was touched by the many youth who are languishing at home without any job on my campaign tour of the Constituency recently”, he told the GNA and stressed that the centres would also seek to encourage school drop-outs at Oforikrom to further their education in a bid to give them a new lease of life to benefit the nation.
The parliamentary candidate who is also a lecturer at the Department of Bio-Chemistry of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, further declared his resolve to augment teaching in deprived schools in the constituency by liaising with some Non-Governmental Organizations who would be expected to provide free teaching services during vacations.
He said he would identify tourism potentials in the area and develop them to offer employment opportunities for the people especially women, since they played crucial roles in any nation’s development.
