A group calling itself the Concerned Youth of the NDC has called for the immediate arrest of the opposition New Patriotic Party’s national chairman, Jake Obetsebi Lamptey for allegedly “ordering alleged criminals in the NPP not to cooperate with on-going investigations by the EOCO”.
According to the group, Mr. Obetsebi Lamptey’s orders are criminal adding that “anybody who acts to protect criminals or stand in the way of lawful investigations is himself a criminal who must be prosecuted.”
The group made this known when they presented a petition to the Castle to press home their demands for members of the erstwhile NPP’s 2005/2006 cabinet to cooperate with the Economic and Organised Crimes Office which is investigating the judgment debt paid to businessman Alfred Woyome.
The group which presented their petition to presidential staffer, Nii Lantey Vanderpuije at the Arts Center also called for the immediate resignation of the NPP’s flag bearer for the December polls Nana Akuffo-Addo.
According to them, “the investigation team at EOCO wants him (Nana Addo) for his role in the government cabinet of 2005/2006 that abrogated a legitimate contract, which has been approved by the Central Tender Review Board through the procurement process.”
The demonstration which started from the Kwame Nkrumah circle went through some principal streets of Accra and ended at the Arts Centre where they presented their petition.
In an interview, a deputy spokesperson for the Concerned Youth of the NDC, Paul Semeh, said “it is natural for criminals in the NPP to quarrel over court judgements which implicates them, but, it is not for criminals to determine how they should be investigated”.
“The President must stamp his authority by bringing them to justice” he added.
The group alluded to the “reckless, corrupt and incompetent” administration of the NPP administration as the cause of the huge judgement debt the state has incurred and thus called on EOCO to take all necessary steps to investigate all culprits involved.
