The interim General Secretary of the National Democratic Party (NDP) Dr Joseph Mamboah-Rockson has said executives of the party are unaware of any meeting between the former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings and some members of the party.
His reaction is coming in the wake of a purported secret tape that alleged the former First Lady met some executives and members of the party in the Ashanti region and urged them to work hard to ensure victory for the NDP in the 2012 elections.
There have been attempts by executives of the NDP to lobby the former First Lady to accept the party’s overwhelming endorsement as its flagbearer.
Dr Joseph Mamboah-Rockson speaking on Election Headquarters on Joy FM Wednesday said the alleged tape was not clear and that he could not independently confirm whether it was the voice of Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings.
He said news about the tape came to him as a surprise but “If that is her voice, then I think it goes to strengthen our objectives and vision for the formation of the National Democratic Party, which wants to maintain the values that the former First Family have worked their lives for.”
In spite of this, he stressed, the national executives of the party “are not aware that she was meeting in Kumasi with other executives because we have not been informed.”
