Interim Secretary General of the National Democratic Party, NDP, Dr. Manboa-Rockson has announced his resignation from the party.
Dr. Manboa-Rockson made the announcement in Tamale.
He said the NDP was formed as an alternative vehicle to people from NDC because of the dissatisfaction bred in the NDC as a result of late President John Mills' bad leadership.
"The birth of the NDP earlier this year was because of the behaviour the late President, John Atta Mills. The party that he led since 2009 developed a very stubborn [character]; it developed elitism, cabalism which was not a good omen for the people of Ghana; it resulted in corruption and insults rained whenever the founder of the NDC wanted to comment on situation in the party; some of us were very angry because of the insults that were meted out the former president, JJ Rawlings," he narrated.
According to him, President Mahama has brought great improvement and unity in the party after the demise of late President Mills.
He said since President Mahama ascended to the presidency, "things have started improving; discipline in the party has increased; people have stopped insulting the former president."
Dr. Rockson said the NDP had decided that it would not field a presidential candidate in the face of moves by President Mahama to woo the Rawlingses to get involved in the party.
He claimed that former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyemang-Rawlings had kicked against the move insisting she would go the flag-bearership of the NDP.
Dr. Manboa-Rockson, who early this week was pleading with Nana Konadu to accept the flag-bearership slot, accused her of now micro-managing the NDP.
