Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom, Flagbearer of Convention People’s Party (CPP), says he would pursue an all-inclusive policy in restructuring the Party to make it vibrant and capable of winning Election 2008. He said the unification of the Party was very necessary for the advancement of the political ambitions of the CPP and urged supporters to work hard and to avoid back-biting and division. Dr Nduom was speaking to the Ghana News Agency after he had been handed over the CPP presidential ticket to contest next year’s election at the Party’s national delegates’ congress held in Kumasi on Monday. He polled 1,022 votes out of the total 1,901 ballots cast to beat his main rival Professor Agyemang-Badu Akosah, who polled 644 votes. Mr George Opesika Aggudey, Mr Bright Akwetey, Dr Frederick Asante Akuffo and Dr Kwaku Osafo also contested for the flagbearership position. The Flagbearer said he was currently collaborating with some well-meaning supporters of the CPP both at home and abroad to mobilize the necessary funds and resources to improve upon the Party’s internal structures. This, he noted, would help to make the Party attractive and more appealing to the citizenry, especially the youth, for the strengthening of the CPP’s support base. Dr Nduom enumerated the pioneering and pivotal role CPP played in the nation’s development process and said just as the Party worked tirelessly to gain independence for Ghana in 1957, “so will he work to eradicate hunger, diseases, high unemployment rate among the citizenry and indiscipline in the country if given the mandate in next year’s elections”. He was emphatic that the CPP would go solo in Election 2008 and would not merge with any other Party since it had a different ideology and would always adhere to its principles. Dr Nduom appealed to activists and supporters of the Party, who had become dormant towards CPP’s activities and programmes due to varied reasons, to come on board to help to rebuild the Party to win Election 2008.
