Founding member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) says neither the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, nor the Trade Minister, Alan Kyerematen, are strong candidates to lead the Party in the 2024 election.

According to Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, the Trade Minister failed to resign on principle after his involvement in several infractions; a phenomenon he believes may mar his political future.

"If Alan will work on merit, he might have sympathy votes from some people but I don't find him to be that strong neither is Bawumia strong.

"Alan, I expected to have resigned on principle sometime ago and believe me, if he had done that, I Nyaho would have followed him to any place, but he didn't have the courage," he said.

The NPP stalwart also indicated that the Vice President's recent address on Ghana's economy was organised to completely destroy his presidential ambition.

Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe believes the lecture on Ghana's economy should have been depoliticised and issues presented on the altar of truth.

Speaking to Metro TV's Bridget Otoo, the former Ambassador to Serbia and Montenegro described the event as an old comedy.

"A mistake Bawumia made and that really hurts me alot. The economy is the economy of the state - that is what he wanted to tell us. First and foremost, he shouldn't have been a partisan affair; so those who organised it completely wanted to destroy Bawumia.

"State of the economy, you address the nation and should invite people from all the sectors. You don't pack...what they did to me was an old comedy tactic which the comedians themselves don't use," he added.

Although the duo, Dr. Bawumia and Alan, appear to be the forerunners for the flagbearership race with Global InfoAnalytics tipping the latter to win, Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe is convinced the right candidate to lead the NPP in the next election is yet to emerge.

He, however, downplayed the chances of Agric Minister, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto and Former Energy Minister, Boakye Agyarko who have made their intention known.
