Parliament is considering a bill that will enhance the powers of the Serious Fraud Office to enable it investigate and prosecute organized crime.
The economic and organized crime bill will empower the SFO to arrest and prosecute persons alleged to have engaged in organized crime, cyber fraud and drug trafficking.
Attorney General, Betty Mould Iddrisu told parliament the move has become necessary because of the increasingly complex nature of crime.
The bill was welcomed by most MPs who say it is long overdue.
However, there are others who fear there is too much power being entrusted in the SFO
