The Commission of Inquiry looking into the petitions for the creation of new regions has been urged to identify and highlight development needs of the proposed Bono East Region.
The Member of Parliament for the Sene East Constituency, Dominic Napare, made the appeal when he was speaking at a public hearing organised by the Commission on Wednesday at Kajaji in the Sene East District in the Brong-Ahafo Region.
He said the creation of the additional regions was in the right direction and urged the Commission to include how to develop the proposed regions in its recommendations to government.
According to Mr Napare, his appeal is informed by the neglect of the eastern part of the Brong Ahafo Region over the years.
The Commission, chaired by Justice Stephen Allan Brobbey, a retired Supreme Court Judge, has been holding a series of nationwide of public hearings about the creation of the new regions.
The hearing in the Brong Ahafo Region, for instance, was to assess the import of the petition by the Coalition of Bono East Chiefs which is spearheading the carving out of Bono East from Brong-Ahafo Region.
Mr Napare expressed grave concern about the deplorable nature of roads in the area and appealed to the government to complete portions of the Kwame-Danso-Kajaji road to assist the movements of the people and improve economic activities.
Mr Napare advised the chiefs and people in the proposed Bono East area to bury their political differences and chart a common path for the creation of the region.
Justice Brobbey has explained to the group spearheading the creation of the new region that the achievement of their quest will be based on the import of their petition and the outcome of the referendum.
He said the work of the Commission is to facilitate the constitutional processes involved in the exercise and it was up to the petitioners to intensify the campaign and educate their people to participate during the referendum.
