Mining company Newmont Ghana has restored air shuttle company Citylink as its official internal carrier.
The multi-million Ghana cedi contract was suspended in March this year after the carrier was found to have failed a safety audit.
A South African Aviation firm which conducted the audit identified some shortcomings as a result of which it concluded that the airline could not guarantee the safety of its clients.
Director of Corporate and External Affairs, Chris Anderson however tells Joy Business the flight operator has since satisfied all requirements of the audit.
"We have an international company that audits all the aviation we use as Newmont world wide and in the audit early this year they had some problems that Citylink didn’t correct. So as per global policy we were not able to use them.
“Citylink again has been audited again now and have the chance to rectify those issues.”
“…And so we have started using Citylink again," he said.
He adds that Newmont is hopeful the measures put in place will forestall future audit failures.
The restoration of the contract took effect Monday. Goldfields Ghana is one other mining firm to have suspended a similar arrangement with Citylink.
Though it is yet to officially restore the contract, officials explain to Joy Business it is also aware of the corrective measures taken by the flight operator since the contract was suspended.
