The National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) has faulted the Tema Traditional Council for not consulting it before going ahead with Wednesday’s demolition of homes at Manhean.
Speaking to Joy News Friday, Tema Metropolitan NADMO Coordinator, Hajia Zeinab Abdulai noted that the council’s failure to give the organization prior notice of the exercise is unfair.
According to her, NADMO has currently commenced the registration of affected residents to determine the type of relief items to provide them upon submission of a report.
Hajia abdulai indicated that as a result of the failure of the council to consult NADMO early enough about its demolition exercise, it has placed a strain on the organization.
NADMO says it would have been in a better position to ensure that the displaced persons were not left homeless after the exercise if it had been notified by the council.
The response from NADMO followed a request from hundreds of affected residents of Tema Newton for the organization to provide them with relief items.
Hundreds of people in Manhean have been left without accommodation for the last two days, following the demolishing of their houses by the Tema Traditional Council on April 2, this year.
The affected people are alleged to have encroached on the lands of the traditional council.
Some of the victims of the demolition exercise told Joy News' Joseph Opoku Gakpo that they passed the night close by the rubble.
Most of them could not have their bath since Wednesday because they do not have any place to wash down.
Meanwhile, Joy News indicated that the Tema Traditional Council has declined comment on the issue.
