The Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr Emmanuel Owusu-Ansah, has stated that the National Health Insurance Scheme is crucial to the Government because a nation without healthy people has no future.
He therefore called on all Ghanaians who have not registered with the Scheme to do so, to ensure good health and fitness to support the development of the nation.
Mr Owusu-Ansah was addressing separate durbars of chiefs and people of Atwima-Foase and Jachie-Pramso and surrounding communities in the Bosomtwe-Atwima-Kwanwoma district as part of his visit to those areas to inspect on-going government projects on Tuesday.
He indicated that the Health Insurance scheme just like the Vehicle Insurance is operated in many parts of the world for its citizens to enjoy and improve their health conditions.
Mr Owusu-Ansah said the Government came to meet the Cash and Carry system of payment for health delivery and felt it was expensive and therefore decided to introduce the NHIS, which members pay some premium and benefit from it.
He said the Government was committed to the development of the people and stressed that it was highly concerned about the development of artillery roads that lead to Kumasi and was doing everything within its means to put them in proper shape.
He talked about the traffic jams from Atonsu to Kejetia, Abuakwa to Kejetia, Pankrono-Tafo to Kejeita, Maakro-Suame Magazine to Kejetia and others and said efforts were being made to solve them.
Mr Owusu-Ansah said the roads from Komfo Anokye to Abuakwa, Kumasi-Tachiman-Offinso and Ahinsan-Bekwai were being tackled and that the Kumasi-Accra road is almost completed.
He said all these projects were aimed at ensuring easy access to the City centre.
Nana Owusu Bempah, Pramsohene commended the government for providing water to the area and ending the perennial water problem.
Nana Bempah appealed to the government to complete the upgrading of Jachie-Pramso Secondary School to befit the status as a Senior Secondary school.
