Librarians at the Nima-Mamobi Gale Community library say although the facility is user friendly and accessible, noise from the surrounding mosques and the major road make it unattractive to students. The library, which is situated at Kanda was established by a Canadian philanthropist, Kathy Knowles in collaboration with the Ghana library fund for deprived children and youth in Nima, Mamobi and surrounding areas. The library has both the children and adults department and a theater.Librarian Habiba Halidu who is in charge of the children section, says patronage had dwindled due to longer school hours and extra classes which was not the case years back. Fortunately some of the children who use the facility are offered free lunch every afternoon and have the opportunity to increase their mental capacity by playing with puzzles after a hard day's work. The free theatre is also available for recreation as additional benefits. The adult department of the library which is also open to the public offers free adult education from 7pm to 9pm.Seth Opoku, a student of the Institute of Professional Studies bemoaned the fact that the intended beneficiaries do not prioritise learning, and therefore are unable to put the library into its maximum use. However, librarian Yvonne Okai in her opinion, the low patronage could be attributed to the noise from the main road and surrounding mosques. She said a noisy library defeats the purpose for its existence.
