Representatives of political parties in the Northern Region are calling on churches to take up active interest in the campaign against acrimonious politics and hate language.
The politicians are also urging the public to openly condemn politics of insult.
They were speaking at the burial service for a popular northern politician, Alhaji Mamudu Iddrisu in the Northern regional capital Tamale.
The service attracted personalities across the political divide as well as chiefs and sympathizers.
The political party representatives in a tribute drummed home the need for co-existence as the meaningful way to entrench the country’s democracy.
The running mate for the opposition New Patriotic Party, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia criticized the violence that has characterized the ongoing Biometric Registration Exercise and called for calm as the process nears completion.
Dr. Bawumia later toured some registration centers in the Northern Regional capital to acquaint himself with the process.
