The opposition New Patriotic Party has rebuffed suggestions by NDC executives that its members have infiltrated the governing party in a bid to create disaffection for President John Mahama.

Director of Communications of NPP, Nana Akomea told Joy News' Francis Abban on Top Story the allegation can only be a "joke."

He cannot understand how the NPP will seek to infiltrate the NDC voters’ register to take part in an election the NPP has no interest in.

He was reacting to claims of infiltration by the Eastern Region chair of the NDC Bismark Tawia Boateng.

Addressing Branch and Constituency executives at an outreach programme to endorse the candidature of the president in the Lower Manya Krobo Constituency, the NDC chair said all persons who have infiltrated the NDC's voters’ register will be arrested.

He suspects that some NPP members have found their way into the register in order to vote against the president who is the sole contender in the NDC presidential primary slated for November 7.

The Greater Accra Region NDC chair Ade Coker who is also making similar allegations said the party will soon open and clean the register by doing away with suspected NPP supporters who have found their way into the register.

The claims by the two chairmen follow the decision by the party to, for the first time, expand its electoral college to allow for all members at the grassroots level and with party cards to vote in the parliamentary and presidential primaries.

But Nana Akomea said the claims are baseless.

"Why will the NPP go and register in the NDC to vote against John Mahama?" he asked.

He said if there is any infiltration at all it will be the NDC's own doing.

The NPP Director of Communications cited instances where the NDC was alleged to be collecting ID cards of some Ghanaians across the country for the purpose of creating a new data base.

He suspects that 'sin' committed by the party is back to haunt them.
