The 2012 Presidential Candidate of the NPP, Nana Akufo-Addo and National Chairman, Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey have both commended all NPP members of the Ablekuma South constituency for the gallant gesture of unity which has finally allowed them to successfully elect polling station and constituency officers. They made these remarks at the Karikari Brobbey Park in Dansoman where a unity rally was held by the constituency to swear in newly elected polling station and constituency executives. In his remarks, Nana Akufo-Addo congratulated all members of the constituency for the patience and tolerance for one another and called on all NPP members across the country to take a cue from this and remain united and focused and “victory will surely be ours in 2012.” He also called on all members of the party to do their best to ensure that the election of the party’s parliamentary candidates, which will take place sometime next year, will be devoid of acrimony and divisions so that after the process, the party will be the victor as was the case in the election of the presidential candidate. He stated that the NPP’s tradition has always permitted competition but after the process of election, winners and losers alike, join forces to ensure that the party continues to stand strong and formidable. He remarked that the NDC, unlike the NPP have no policies and programs that can help move our country forward and all they think about is what to do on election day to win the next election but “I stand in front of all of you today, here at Karikari Brobbey Park to assure you that we will not allow them to have their way in 2012. Every hole and corner that they enter, we shall go in with them and make sure that when the votes are counted, what is due us is what will be declared for us and I am convinced that will surely mean a victory for the NPP.” This attracted a loud and deafening cheer from the crowd. Speaking on the same platform, the National Chairman of the party, Mr. Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey also congratulated all members of the Ablekuma South constituency for uniting and electing party officers for the constituency. “To me, it is a strong indication of how ready the NPP is for the upcoming 2012 general election and I call on all members across the country to take a cue from this constituency and remain united as we all fight for the single purpose of winning back power in 2012”, he noted. He said that the party leadership has taken note of comments made by some sitting MP’s and parliamentary hopefuls and sanctions will be applied if they have to, after a thorough assessment of the matters. He remarked that “the party will not sit down for any persons to derail Nana Akufo-Addo’s chance of winning the 2012 general election, because of their personal interests.” “We paid dearly for that in 2008 and we will not sit down and watch as a few people push the party down to another painful defeat” he said to another loud applause from the crowd. He continued that “the energy and passion I see here today tells me that the NPP is ready and steady for the battle ahead and I congratulate every member here present and others across the country for that.” Newly elected polling station and constituency executives were also sworn in. The constituency chairman, Theophillus Tettey thanked both Nana Akufo-Addo and Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey for coming to grace the occasion and sharing such rich words with them and promised them on behalf of the rest of the constituency, that Ablekuma South will lead the fight for the party, going into the 2012 general elections. Also present at the rally were Hon. Joe Appiah, MP for Ablekuma North, Sheik I. C. Quaye, MP for Ayawaso Cental, Ursula Owusu, Boakye Agyarko, John Boadu, former National Youth Organizer of the party, Lord Commey, former NPP National Organizer, among others. Also present in their numbers were the Greater Accra Regional executives of the party who also take turns to congratulate members of the constituency for the much anticipated unity in the constituency.
