The governing National Democratic Congress is alleging that members of the opposition New Patriotic Party have infiltrated the party's voters' register to be used in the coming parliamentary and presidential primaries.
According to the Greater Accra chair of the NDC, Ade Coker some candidates contesting the November 7 parliamentary primaries of the NDC have invited people to register in order to vote for them in the primaries.
He said such candidates did not check the backgrounds of these supporters and have inadvertently brought in people suspected to be sympathizers of the NPP to register.
The governing party has for the first time expanded its electoral college to allow for all members at the grassroots level to vote in the parliamentary and presidential primaries.
It is a departure from previous elections where only the delegates made up of constituency, regional and national executives are camped to vote for new candidates.
But the new process is not without controversy. Coker said the register compiled few weeks ago contains foreign voters suspected to be NPP.
He added the register will be opened very soon for the party to sift through it by identifying NPP supporters and removing their names from the register.
In the Eastern Region, the NDC Chair Bismark Tawiah Boateng is threatening to arrest persons he suspects will vote against President John Mahama's candidature on November 7.
With John Mahama as the sole candidate for the presidential slot, party members are expected to endorse his candidature but Tawiah Boateng is convinced some sympathisers of the NPP who have infiltrated the NDC voter's register are planning to vote against the president.
Addressing Branch and Constituency executives at an outreach programme to endorse the candidature of the president in the Lower Manya Krobo Constituency, Bismark Tawiah Boateng said anybody who goes against the party's directive by opposing the candidature of the president will be dealt with.
The NPP is meanwhile yet to comment on the allegation.
