The two feuding factions in the Odododiodio constituency have pledged to work for peace in the ongoing biometric registration exercise.
Nii Lantey Vanderpuye of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and Captain (rtd) Victor Okaikwei of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) all made the vow at a meeting brokered by the police service.
The Odododiodio constituency has become notorious for violence in the ongoing biometric registration exercise culminating in the assault of the Ablekuma South aspirant for the NPP, Ursula Owusu.
Ms Owusu, in an interview, said she had lost confidence in the police and would rather rely on the party security to ensure her safety in her next visit to the constituency.
But reports of violence continued unabated with supporters of the two parties clashing again, Thursday afternoon.
Not impressed with the turn of events, the Accra Regional Police Commander DCOP Patrick Timbilla called on the two political heads in the constituency to smoke the peace pipe.
They did, at least for the cameras, as the two leaders of the fueding parties held hands as they filed out of the meeting ground with a promise to work together for peace.
Meanwhile, the Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament Professor Mike Ocquaye has appealed to the Greater Accra Regional Commander DCOP, Patrick Timbillah, to write to the Electoral Commission to seek clarification on the status of ordinarily residence.
The subject of who a resident is has led to violent clashes between the NDC and NPP in the Odododioodoo constituency, following allegations that supporters of the latter had been turned away from registration in the on-going biometric exercise. Professor Ocquaye, who was part of a meeting called by the police to resolve the dispute, says the issue should be quickly addressed.
