An NPP parliamentary aspirant has been granted police enquiry bail after he was arrested for verbally assaulting the Municipal Chief Executive, Afrifa Yamoah-Ponkoh.
Forty-year old businessman, Kaakyire Badu, was picked up with an accomplice, Kwame Amoako, a goldsmith- 45, in connection with last Saturday’s incident during a clean-up exercise.
About five irate men attacked Mr. Yamoah –Ponkoh, in the presence of Municipal Police MTTU Commander, ASP George Amoako.
They had come in a vehicle registered GR 55-10, with posters of the parliamentary aspirant embossed on it.
Police say after Kaakyire also known as Eric Badu Antwi-Boaitey, who had ignored an earlier invitation, also confronted some assembly staff on official duty on Tuesday, May 5.
Ejisu Municipal Commander Chief Superintendent Laar Baman tells Nhyira News initial investigation revealed the suspects’ actions were unprovoked.
“I invited them but they failed to turn up. I sent police to Kaakyire Badu’s house but he told somebody who was outside that he has travelled to Accra but later yesterday [Tuesday] around 10 a.m, he was spotted around the market area where assembly Engineer was working with his team. He also confronted them. I’m told he stopped there to question them why they were working at the place.
So I got him to my office and try to interrogate him about the allegation. I asked him why he was going round obstructing the assembly from working and he said he is a concern citizen and he couldn’t give any tangible reason.

It was just an unprovoked attack so we have processed him and on Friday, they would be arraigned before court”. Chief Superintendent Laar Baman said.
Chief Superintendent Baman warned police will continue to stamp their authority to check lawlessness, as they prepare the suspects for court on Friday.
“Infact for anybody to attack somebody who has not provoked him, it is offensive conduct. If the MCE had not exercise restraint and also reacted, it would have occasioned the breach of the peace.” Chief Superintendent Laar Baman
Meanwhile, Kaakyire Badu after the bail is expected to face the NPP’s Vetting Committee later today.
