A member of the communication team of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Boamah Otokunor, has said the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) should have used their inter-denominational prayer sessions to pray for forgiveness for their sins.
Otokunor noted that until the NPP, led by its flag bearer Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, renounce their “All die be die” and “win at all cost” mantra, their prayers to God would be in vain.
The NPP over the weekend held an non-denominational prayer service at the Essipong Sports Stadium in Sekondi-Takoradi, to seek the face of God ahead of the December polls.
The prayer session which was under the theme: Setting Forth With The Hand Of God is also to entrust the party’s electioneering campaign into God’s hands in their quest to unseat the NDC come December.
The occasion was graced by the flag bearer of the party, Nana Akufo-Addo, former president John Agyekum Kufuor, National Chairman, Jake Obetsebi Lamptey, Campaign Manager, Mr. Boakye Agyarko, party National Executives, parliamentary candidates as well as other party functionaries and members across the country.
However, critics, mainly from the ruling party have described the NPP’s decision to prayer as hypocritical and a portrayal of double standards; an accusation the NPP has vehemently denied.
But speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Monday, Peter Boamah Otokunor said the only motive behind the NPP’s non-denominational Prayer Service is to cover up their diabolic plans to plunge the country into chaos in 2012.
“The NPP’s prayer session is to cover up their gargantuan diabolic plans for 2012 election” he added.
He said he could not comprehend the motive behind the NPP's decision to let God lead their campaign when in fact they (NPP) chided President John Evans Atta Mills for saying God is the president of Ghana.
To buttress his point, Otokunor cited the way the NPP "mocked President Mills for turning the Castle into a prayer camp" instead of concentrating on government business, as a clear example of the NPP’s double standards.
The NDC’s youth activist stated that angels would have rejoiced in heaven if the NPP prayer session was for a genuine cause.
Peter Boamah Otokunor reminded the NPP that God is not mocked hence should not portray themselves as being holier than the Pope just to deceive Ghanaians for political expediency.
