Bawumia

Provisional results available to JoyNews indicate that former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has secured a commanding victory in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primary held today, Saturday, January 31, 2026.
Based on data from all 275 constituencies, Dr. Bawumia has crossed the requisite 50% threshold, effectively becoming the flagbearer-elect to lead the NPP into the 2028 general elections.
A few hours after the close of polls, the tally showed a clear mathematical lead that makes a runoff impossible.
While the Electoral Commission (EC) is yet to officially certify the final figures, the trend across the regions remains consistent.
