A unification football game was staged between the Konkombas and Bimobas.
Over a decade of conflict between the two feuding ethnic group over a parcel of land in the area has claimed the lives and properties of over dozens of residents there.
A joint mediation committee comprising the East Mamprusi District security council and the Bunkrugu-Yunyo District put up by the Northern Regional Minister has been working together with the overlord of Mamprugu, Nayiri- Na Bohagu Mahami Abdulai sheriga and the West Africa Network for peace building towards achieving peace for the two feuding groups.
Nakpanduri and its surrounding communities have been in a curfew for quite sometime now following a bloody clash that has been lingering between the Konkombas and Bimobas.
Though the Konkombas and the Bimobas are playmates, they often fight each other over that parcel of land.
Until the unification football game to demonstrate their pledge to coexist peacefully and welcome each other to Kpemale, many of the fled residents mainly Konkombas were seeking shelter in neighboring communities.
Chief of Nakpanduri representing the Bimobas David Kansuk said the conflict in the Bunkrugu-Yunyo District has left the area behind in development hence the need for peace.
“We have seen the effect of this unpleasant atmosphere. It will be very devastating and detrimental to our lives and the prosperity of our communities if this diabolic and uncalled for situation is not nipped in the bud.
I politely ask all and sundry to do all they can to invoke and reinstate the bond and spirit that used to bond our forefathers together in those days, I want all chiefs children, political and opinion leaders and even the unborn to reconcile, forgive and forget all the agonies, torture and wrongs we have caused one another for the sake of God and forge ahead with new and fresh holy minds and soul”, he added.
Chief David Kansuuk also said the traditional leaders will not hesitate to hand over anyone who is seen or heard pepertrating conflict of any kind in the area to the police for them to be dealt with.
On the part of the Konkombas, Chief of Nasuan Daniel Wajack said the common enemy of the two ethnic groups is poverty and illiteracy and that should be what both groups should be fighting to eradicate rather than taking arms against one another.
