Since the inception of Hip life music which is the local version of Hip hop in Ghana almost two decades, it has basically dominated the music industry.
There are now Twi, Ewe, Ga and Dagbani versions and songs produced in these languages have enjoyed massive air-plays more than the foreign ones.
Although Hip life has chalked a lot of success in Ghana, some artist still rap and promote English (Hip hop) music in Ghana.
One such group is Skillions which was founded by Jay-so. Ball-J and Shao-Qan who are also members of Skillions are on a course to put Ghanaian Hip hop music on the international lime light.
The two, Albert Hanson (Ball J) and Cyril Yankah (Shao-Qan) together own Nu Afrika Records and have a studio to record and produce their own songs.
Speaking exclusively to Myjoyonline.com, the duo disclosed they have been working on the project for three years now and there are twelve tracks on their Nu Afrika project Mix Tape.
They are currently promoting three tracks on the album and they have produced one video ‘Temperature’ to help in the promotion.
They said they are aiming at promoting Hip hop made in Ghana (GH Rap) for the global audience and hopes to put Ghana on the world map.
Nu Afrika said although their core aim is to produce ‘GH Rap’, they have also recorded some Hiplife and Gospel artistes like; VIP, Tinny and Ayigbe Edem.
Asked if they are promoting their music outside Ghana, they said they have links in South Africa (Channel O), United States and Canada (Kamrock TV in Toronto) and their songs are enjoying air play there.
