The National Union of Ghana Students has congratulated Dr. Edward Omane Boamah on his appointment as Communications Minister.
In a letter signed by the President and General Secretary of the Union, Andrews Kofi Gyan and Louisa Atta-Agyemang respectively, NUGS said it was inspired by his meteoric rise on the political ladder.
The umbrella body of all students in Ghana expressed confidence that as a former NUGS President, Dr. Omane Boamah will work hard to justify the confidence reposed in him by President John Mahama.
The Union commended Dr Boamah for his “unwavering support for the cause of students and students’ welfare in the country since leaving the NUGS presidency close to a decade ago.”
Apart from NUGS, the Africa Telecommunications Union (ATU), the Communications Workers Union of the Trades Union Congress and the German Ambassador to Ghana also sent congratulatory messages to the Minister.
A letter signed by Henry D. Ayivor, the General Secretary of the CWU, said, “As a certified trade union representing a larger membership in the communication industry, we feel highly impressed by your wonderful presentation during your vetting by Parliament.”
It added, “It is our hope that your assumption of office will build bridges of cooperation and understanding between your ministry and the Union for our mutual benefit.”
On his part, the German Ambassador, Dr Renate Schimkoreit, said, “I am looking forward to a trustworthy and open cooperation that reflects the long-standing close relationship between Germany and Ghana…”
