National Security Coordinator, Brigadier General Nunoo Mensah, has been accused of interfering in the chieftaincy dispute that disrupted this year’s Aboakyere festival.
A prominent member of the Otuano royal family, Samuel Ghunney, one of the factions in the Winneba chieftaincy dispute says key government officials including the Brigadier General, the Municipal Chief Executive as well as the Member of Parliament for Effutu, Mr Mike Hammer, were responsible for the clashes that occurred over the weekend.
The violence led to the cancellation of the durbar of chiefs to climax this year’s festival.
The festival has always been celebrated amidst heavy security because of hostilities between the Ghartey and Ayeribi Acquah families.
Mr Samuel Ghunney alleges this resulted in the clash between the two main Asafo companies, Twafo and Denstifo.
Mr. Ghunney tells Joy News the conduct of the government officials smacks of undue interference.
He accused the officials of calling “specific” people to the Osu Castle to plan the festival.
Almost all officials approached including the regional police have declined to comment about the weekend’s incident.
The Member of Parliament for Efutu, Mike Hammah also declined to comment except to answer for his alleged involvement.
