Ghana Football Association(GFA) President, Kwesi Nyantakyi believes the new Ghana Premier league trophy donated by the league headline sponsor First Capital Plus will enhance the competitiveness of the league.
The winner of this season’s First Capital plus premier league will get a new trophy after the league sponsor’s donated a sparkling 90 cm in height trophy to the GFA on Monday.
The trophy which arrived in Ghana on Monday morning from Turkey was paraded through some principal streets of Accra before finally reaching the premises of the Ghana FA.
The gold plated trophy is the second largest piece of silverware in world football only behind that of the English Premier League which stands at 104cm.
Nyantakyi who received the trophy thanked First Capital plus Bank and assured that they will reciprocate the gesture.
“On behalf of the Ghana Football Association I would like to thank First Capital Plus Bank for bringing us this trophy and its accessories,” said Nyantakyi
“And that whoever wins this trophy will be making history as the first team to win this giant trophy which I am told is the second biggest in the world.
“We hope this will go a long way to enhance the competitiveness of the Premier League as we strive to keep enhancing the local game.”
The winners of the First Capital Plus League will only have the original trophy for keeps upon winning the title on three occasions.
A miniature pieces which came with the huge trophy will be handed to the champions when the original title returns to the Ghana FA the following season.
