A Former Deputy Education and Sports Minister in the Kuffour led administration, Osei Bonsu Amoah says the only way government will only invest in the sport sector if only the Ministry bids and host major tournaments as it was in the NPP era.
According to him, the sports Ministry on its own can never build sports facilities in the country if government does not release funds.
He believes that if Ghana is really into sports development, then the country should have had Sports Complexes in all the ten regions so as to promote sporting activities.
The Member of Parliament (MP) for Akuapim-North has advised the sports ministry to pile pressurize on the sitting government to invest more into sports by bidding for competitive tournaments which will push government to raise funds to build infrastructures.
“The government will only pump money into sports and develop sports infrastructures if we try to bid for some major tournaments, the Ministry should force the government to invest in sports. The way to force them (government) is to organize competitions, with that the government has no choice than to invest in sports,” he said on Asempa fm
He also disclosed that the Kuffour led Administration almost bided for 2015 All African Games.
