Hiplife musician, Bice Osei Kuffour popularly known as Obour has been sworn into office as new Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) president for a four-year term at a colourful ceremony in Accra Thursday.
Obour polled 64 votes to beat contenders; Nana Tuffour who had 51 votes, Gyedu Blay Ambolley, 24, and Willie Roi, 2 votes at the August 18 elections at MUSIGA’s congress in Tamale.
His inauguration, the first to be made public in the history of the musician’s body which came into being some three decades ago, marked the end of Mrs Diana Hopeson’s four-year term at the helm of affairs of musicians in the country.
The investiture took place at the main hall of the MUSIGA head office and was attended by several personalities who matter when it comes to the creative and arts industries in Ghana.
Notable amongst them were musicians, Ben Brako, Tinny, Sydney (Barima), Richie, Asem, A. B. Crentsil, Nana Kwame Ampedu, Bibi Brew, Nana Tuffour and Efya. Actors Pascaline Edwards and Augustine Abbey, from the movie industry, were among movie personalities who were also in attendance.
Business mogul and owner of the Citizen Kofi Entertainment Centre, Dr Kofi Amoah, chaired the inauguration with special guests, Mrs Diana Hopeson and Alhaji Sidi Kubuari, out-going and former presidents of MUSIGA respectively; Dr Hopeson, Diana Hopeson’s husband; Kofi Asamoah, General Secretary of the Trade Union's Congress (TUC); Kofi Owusu Mensah, a representative of the Minister of Tourism and a host of others gracing the event.
