Former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party is accusing loyalists of the party's flagbearer of plotting an impeachment process against the Chairman and General Secretary.
Nana Ohene Ntow said the impeachment process against Paul Afoko and Kwabena Agyapong is "symptomatic of a bigger problem that needs to be addressed."
Regional Executives across the country have begun an impeachment process against the two party leaders they accuse of being divisive elements within the party.
Already three regions- Central, Eastern, Volta- have handed their unanimous votes of no confidence against Afoko and Agyepong.
A meeting in the Ashanti Region ostensibly to pass a vote of no confidence in the two members ended inconclusively with some Regional executives reported to have walked out of the meeting.
The flagbearer of the party Nana Akufo-Addo has distanced himself from the impeachment processes across the regions.
But Ohene Ntow, a staunch supporter of the Alan Kyeremanten faction in the NPP believes there are loyal elements to Nana Akufo-Addo who are scheming behind the scenes to have the two men impeached.
He told Joy News' Dzifa Bampoh there is no basis for any impeachment process against the two leaders.
He said the party's constitution defines in clear terms how the party's personnel can be impeached.
"There must be painted grounds for an impeachment process to begin," he noted, adding all the allegations against Afoko and Agyepong as well as the impeachment process are without "solid evidence."
"This is not the first time we are having primaries. ...After every election once executives are elected everything settles down. Why can't we settle down?" he asked.
But spokesperson of Nana Akufo-Addo wondered why there is a reference to Nana Akufo-Addo loyalists with few months to the elections.
Are there persons within the party who are not loyal to the flagbearer and leader of the party, Moustapha Hamid hinted subtly while charging the rank and file of the party to support its leader ahead of the election.
He said Nana Akufo-Addo had nothing to do with the regional congresses ostensibly to oust the two party leaders.
He said he was rather in support of a NEC meeting Paul Afoko had called and was ready to attend that meeting only to be told a day to the meeting that Afoko had cancelled it.
He said there cannot be divisions within the party with only few months to go for the 2016 elections.
Meanwhile, a political science lecturer at the University of Ghana Aggrey Darko has advised the NPP not "press the panic button and go into comedy or errors."
He said the "vote of no confidence is premature" charging Council of Elders to show leadership at this crucial moment.
He would rather the party allows investigations to go on before taking any further decision on the two men.
