Prof. John Evans Atta Mills the NDC flagbearer has said that the oil find in the Western Region was making of God to honour the memory and intentions of the nation’s first President Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. Consequently he has made it clear that an Atta-Mills led government would, ensure that people from the area benefited first in terms of development before any other area of the country so that the area would have a befitting status as the area that produced the oil and the illustrious son of Ghana, Dr Nkrumah, Addressing party supporters at Jomoro, where the incumbent NDC Member of Parliament (MP), Mr Lee Ocran lost the seat to the daughter of Dr Nkrumah, Ms Yaaba Sammia Nkrumah of the CPP, Prof Mills made what could be described as his first ministerial appointment. He said the area was endowed with qualified and experienced NDC leading members and that although Mr Ocran has lost his seat, he would make him (Mr. Ocran) a minister in his administration when he won the December 27 run-off. Prof Mills alleged that the NPP had squandered state resources and was looking at the revenue from the oil as another opportunity to amass wealth at the expense of the state and that the people must be wary and vote them out of office. Prof Mills said by his training and upbringing he had come to believe and understand that when resources were being shared, those who had nothing or very little must first be taken care of before the rest. He explained that it was for this reason that his administration would make definite efforts at providing development projects specifically targeted At areas which lacked amenities before caring for the others, He expressed surprise at the manner Ghanaians exhibited their abhorrence at the arrogant, corrupt, and disrespectful, nature the NPP Administration through the December 7 polls and advised that the call for change would, come to naught if they failed to vote for him to become the president. Prof Mills said after persistent calls, and cries, by Ghanaians especially about the high cost of living, corrupt nature of the NPP government and the need for the government to intervene had fallen on deaf ears, they had shown that they, were the king makers by voting massively against the NPP. He singled out the Ghana Police Service for their exemplary show of professionalism and "excellent work" throughout the campaign, especially providing protection for his campaign team and controlling traffic. He said he was the head of the Police Council when he was the Vice President and was aware of the problem facing the police personnel and "if after all these problems they still have the peace of mind to continue to protect Ghanaians, then they deserve commendation". Prof Mills urged the military, teachers, farmers, nurses and doctors to come out in their numbers and support the change process for a better man for a better Ghana on December 28. Prof Mills also addressed party supporters at the Takoradi Polytechnic Park Aboade, However at about 8.30pm when Prof Mills had left for Accra to meet some party executives, large crowds of party supporters gathered at Shama and Daboase waiting for their Presidential candidate. No word from the Western Regional executive that Prof Mills was having engagement with some party executive members in Accra could persuade the people to disperse. It took Dr. Ekow Spio Garbrah, Mad. Ama Benyiwa Doe, Mr Yaw Boateng Gyan, and the Deputy National Organiser to address the people and give them the assurance that their Presidential candidate would be around from Monday to address them.
