One person has been arrested in connection with clashes that ensued between two communities at Saboba in the Northern Region.
28-year-old Nakoja Moagbaga is so far the only person picked up in connection with Tuesday’s bloody clashes. He is currently being held at the Yendi police station to assist with investigations.
Police found a shotgun and some rounds of ammunition in his possession.
Saboba District Police Commander, DSP Cephas Bediako, explained that only Moagbaga was picked up because all the people involved the conflict ran into the bushes when his men arrived in the area.
A combined team of police and military personnel have been dispatched to the community to keep the peace.
Joy News’ Northern Regional correspondent, Hashmin Mohammed reports that uneasy calm has returned to the district.
According to Hashmin, the presence of the combined security forces has driven away the residents, especially young men, for fear of being picked up.
Two persons died and several others got injured in the clash that ensued between the residents of Hill-top and Bodagbam.
The incident was said to have happened after a native of Hill-top went to cultivate crops on a parcel of land close to the Bodagbam community.
Chairman of the district Security Council, Ali Adolf told Joy News the Council will soon meet to discuss ways to bring an end to the recurring clashes.
He revealed that the Council has been able to identify the conflicting factions and has engaged them at different times on how to end the clashes in the district.
