OPEN LETTER TO AFRICANS ON AU DAY: AFRICAN LEADERS, WAKE UP
For so long, Africa has been struggling with itself. Every year we remember and commemorate African Union Day. I wonder what we are commemorating.
Our weak will as a people?
Our mind-set as half- human beings?
Our corrupt and visionless leaders?
What at all is there to celebrate about Africa?
This may seem harsh but the truth must be told as harsh as the deeds are.
A continent with about half of the world’s natural resources but begs more than the street beggars to survive?
It is high time our African Leaders got this message: WE ARE FED UP WITH THE MEDIOCRITY, THE TIMIDITY, THE OVER DEPENDENCE, THE LACK OF ASSERTIVENESS, THE CORRUPTION, THE VISIONLESSNESS AND THE UNNECESSARY CELEBRATION OF NO ACHIEVEMENT!
God has blessed Africa beyond measure. God has placed just too much at our disposal for us to turn ourselves into beggars.
As I woke up from my sleep writing this, I feel tired as an African, angry as an African youth and ashamed as well.
WHAT AT ALL IS THE PROBLEM OF AFRICA?
Leadership and mind-set?
Just tune your television. …Nigeria, Egypt, Sudan, Liberia, Congo and now Malawi; where a Female president declared general election void only for the court to set aside that declaration. Be my guest and let’s watch how that plays out ??? Africa is becoming too much of an enemy and a laughing stalk unto itself!
Hunger, conflict, abductions, corruption, famine, etc have become surnames to the individual nations of Africa.
Meanwhile, where are our leaders? In their magnificent presidential palaces, riding magnificent cars and spending magnificent money belonging to their magnificently poor people. Don’t get me wrong, man ought to be paid for working. Yes, but for what work? Is it the mediocrity that we can’t survive but for loans and grants from the west? Loans which end up not reaching their intended beneficiaries anyway?
And where is the so called African Union? Collectively, they gather in a Chinese-donated magnificent building, doing same things over and over again while expecting different results. Jim Rohn has a message for them: Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results!
They even gave us a holiday to sit home without going to work; commemorating our laziness in the name of Africa Union Day? They couldn't save their own kind Gadhafi. And our girls are still not back! Hmmmmm
Three days to the day I wrote this, I had a very emotional argument with my Girlfriend. The subject was that: I cannot survive without aid. To her, Nkrumah couldn’t; Rawlings couldn’t; Kufour couldn’t and even the Godly Atta Mills couldn’t. How much more she who is leaving on just students’ allowance? How do I expect Mahama to do it? Must you wait for someone to make you happy? Why not struggle in your own way to be happy? Building Africa begins from us in our small rooms.
Look at Nigeria, few days after a very disrespectfully flamboyant and expensive wedding, over 200 girls got missing. And all the President and other African Leaders could do was declare: A PROBLEM OF AFRICA IS EQUALLY A PROBLEM OF THE WORLD. THE WORLD SHOULD COME TO OUR AID. IF THIS WERE IN THE WEST, THE WHOLE WORLD WILL HEAR IT AND DO SOMETHING??
What are you doing now as a youth in your own corner? We are in our own villages struggling to stop people from smoking. What about you? Do not just celebrate this AU day but ponder over what we need to do to tap all minerals God’s blessed us with in Kpassa, Volta, Ghana and Africa.
Good day.
