The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has called on the Ministry of Energy and power-producing agencies to double up efforts at dealing with the power crisis in the Region.

He said the erratic power cuts, which have become rampant, are adversely impacting the lives of the people in the region, including himself and his household.

Addressing the Energy Minister, Mathew Opoku-Prempeh and the Board Members of Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo), who paid a courtesy call on him, the Asantehene said highlighted the importance of electricity in the country’s economy.

“If this nation's economy will flourish, it is dependent on the works of the Energy Ministry. Even the government’s flagship programme, One District One Factory, relies heavily on electricity.

“So leaders at the Energy Ministry, please ensure that all these shortcomings are resolved,” he said on Wednesday.

On their side, the groups apologised to Otumfuo and the residents of Great Kumasi for the inconvenience caused.

Delivering a speech, the sector Minister said his outfit is working earnestly to relocate the Ameri Power Plant to the Ashanti Region to boost power generation.

“We are pleading with the chiefs and the people of Ashanti Region to pardon us. But, unfortunately, we are in crisis, and this has slowed down our efforts. However, the Ministry will soon install Ameri Plant in Kumasi, a power station to enable free flow of electricity,” he assured the chiefs.
