The Electoral Commission (EC) has clarified that its IT department is not responsible for collating election results.
According to the Commission, the collation of the results of the just-ended poll was done manually at Polling Stations, Constituency and Regional Collation Centres before they were forwarded through fax/email to the National Collation Centre at the EC's headquarters.
A press statement from the EC was in response to a publication that claimed a clandestine meeting was held to cast blame on the EC’s IT Department for collating the 2020 election result.
The EC said; "No software was used for the collation of results as purported in the false news story."
"The Commission wishes to categorically state that this is FALSE. No
such meeting was held on the 14th December 2020 as alleged, neither
will any such meeting be held," the statement disclosed.
The EC further explained that the election results as declared remain unchanged.
"They are based on evidence and facts from the Pink Sheets approved and signed by Agents of the Political Parties," the statement added.
The Commission urged the public to disregard the story on social media.
