The Bono Regional Director of the National Commission on Civic Education (NCCE), Cynthia Animah Boadu, has urged Ghanaians to safeguard the peace they enjoy.

She noted that other countries wish they could experience similar tranquillity.

Cynthia Boadu highlighted Ghana's history of peacefully transitioning governments from different political parties since the start of the Fourth Republic.

"Our neighbours are jealous of the peace in our country. Let's protect it before, during, and after this election season," she said.

Ms. Boadu also called on citizens to consciously protect the peace and democratic processes as the country prepares for the December polls.

"We need to contribute to protecting our peace, especially this year, which is an election year. This is the role of all political parties, the clergy, and everyone," she stated.

Ms. Boadu made these remarks in Sunyani during the Bono Regional Peace Council’s fifth Nana Yaa Nyamaa II Memorial Peace Lectures, themed “Promoting Democratic Governance at the Local Level for Sustainable Peace: The Role of Women.”

The event, organised by the Bono Regional Peace Council, drew attendees from various sectors, including security personnel, political party members, academia, media, and traditional leaders.

The late Queen-mother of Sunyani, Nana Yaa Nyamaa II, passed away on August 1, 2019, at the age of 64.

Madam Justina Owusu-Banahene, the Bono Regional Minister, encouraged stakeholders, including NGOs, civil society organizations, and religious bodies, to promote women's leadership for the betterment of society.

"Let us commit ourselves to creating an inclusive and equitable environment where women can lead and contribute to the democratic process of our governance," she stated.

"We are vigorously advocating for women’s active involvement in politics and leadership."

Ranford Antwi, Sunyani East independent parliamentary aspirant, praised the late queen-mother's advocacy for peace and urged everyone to emulate her example to live peacefully.

He also called on the NCCE to expand its outreach to educate citizens on exercising their civic rights and responsibilities.

The National Democratic Congress Parliamentary Candidate for Sunyani East, Seid Mubarak, also urged the clergy and traditional leaders to ensure the Electoral Commission conducts a fair and transparent election process in the December general elections.

The parliamentary aspirants committed to and signed a peace pact to maintain peace before, during, and after the December elections.
