The paramount chief of Drobo has described yesterday’s meeting between the flagbearer of the oposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) and former President Rawlings as a sign of maturity on the part of the two leaders.
Beyeman Busea Gyenantwi said this when Nana Akufo-Addo paid a courtesy call on him, as he begins a tour of the Brong Ahafo region. Joy news Benjamin Tetteh reports.
The paramount chief lauded the action of the two leaders, saying it would serve as a launchpad for politics of cooperation and respect for one another in the country.
The meeting which was at the request of the NPP flagbearer, saw Nana Addo and former President Rawlings having a hearty chat for the first time. This gesture, according to Nana Busea, is a sign of maturity.
”I have realised that our politics has matured. I congratulate Nana Addo for the meeting with Mr. Rawlings, and I urge him to do same with all the other opponents, for we are all for peace” said Nana Busea.
He explained he initially found it difficult believing that such a meeting took place. This, he said should remind all Ghanaians that political opponents are not enemies.
Earlier, Nana Addo told the chiefs of neighbouring Japekrom that the NPP will not be the cause of any violence in the coming election.
He was responding to a call by the chief of Japekrom on all the political actors to ensure the December elections passed off peacefully.
