Parliament will Friday decide the fate of Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong, as they consider Parliament’s Privileges Committee report recommending his suspension for up to a year.
According to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) MP for Tamale Central, Inusah Fuseini, the Privileges Committee of Parliament, which has the powers of a court, can pronounce sanctions ranging from a caution to removal from office of Mr. Agyapong, if he is found guilty.
“A referral to the Privileges Committee of a Member of Parliament’s conduct, or of an outsider’s behaviour, can be quasi-criminal proceedings so penalties could be imposed on that person’s conduct,” Inusah Fuseini stated.
The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) maverick politician was dragged to the Privileges Committee on July 3 for allegedly calling Parliament a useless institution.
Apology
Mr Agyapong rendered an apology to Parliament for his comments during the hearing last week.
He told the Privileges Committee that if the House feels slighted by his comments made on his television station, NET2 TV, he apologises for making them.
“I am not a tin god, no! but I was furious at Muntaka because he also did not cross-check his facts and put everything together...he attacked me on radio saying all sorts of things. Today that the evidence has come out what are we all sitting here going to say?" he quizzed.
He explained that he was infuriated by the negative things people were saying about him after his criticism of Anas Aremeyaw Anas’ Number 12 documentary.
