The Kumasi Local Council of Chris-tian Churches has appealed to all the political parties in the country to bury their differences and fully participate in the coun-try’s Golden Jubilee celebration.
The council has therefore asked the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to endea-vour to involve the parties in the activities.
"We do not want any disturbance, anarchy in the country as a result of the jubilee celebration," it said.
At a press conference to launch their programme for the celebration here on Thursday, the Rev. Dr. E.H. Brew-Riverson of the Methodist Church said: "Let us avoid partisanship and make sure that every political party is properly represented."
The Methodist Minister singled out President John Agyekum Kufuor and former President Jerry John Rawlings and appealed to them to resolve any differences existing between them.
Rev. Brew-Riverson said "there is only one President, steering the affairs of this country, and we must all support him."
Speaking on the theme of the programme, "Christian Perspective of Ghana @ 50," the chairman of the planning committee, Rev. Douglas Frempong of the Christian Outreach Church, touched on some national events which he said were obvious signs of the favour of the Almighty Creator.
He said the celebration signified a new beginning, liberty, release, restoration, spiritual awakening and cancellations of debts as contained in Leviticus 25 verses 8-55.
Among the national events were the cancellation of the country’s debts by the World Bank and other donor nations, election to serve on the United Nations Security Council and as chairman of the council in August, 2006.
He mentioned the World Food Programme’s selection of Ghana as a storehouse for the sub-continent where big silos would be built to store food with an annual investment of 10 million dollars to purchase food from Ghanaian farms for storage.
He also added his voice to the call for the all-inclusiveness.
As part of the week-long celebration, which starts February 24, through March 4, there will be a clean-up exercise in the Kumasi Metropolis, a two-hour prayer meeting for two days, public lectures on the topic: "The significance of Ghana’s Golden Jubilee, and "The Role of the church in Ghana’s development."
There will also be a symposium on selected topics as well as a massive float on March 3.
