Galaxy International School has held its 15th annual Science and Makers’ fair with the aim of encouraging the study of science and scientific innovation among students in Ghana.The event which was celebrated under the theme: “Imagine, invent and inspire,” brought together students from public schools and parents of different schools, diplomats and educationists to see the scientific innovations of the students of the school.There were over 100 exhibition centers that displayed various projects presented by the students during the year.Projects from students of other schools were also displayed.Among the projects showcased by the students were the building of robots using water bottles, the application of the Pythagoras theorem, making a model car with jet fighters and the technology of using small space to grow vegetables. Other projects included a 3D printer, hologram and robotic arm.The principal of the School, Cafer Tepeli, in his speech, indicated that the Science and Makers’ Fair is a special way of encouraging the study of science and bridging the gaps between the school and other schools.“That’s why students of other schools were not only to observe the scientific display of their Galaxy counterparts but also presented their own projects for display,” he explained.According to him, the Science and Makers’ Fair is targeted at creating a country where the people become aware of science and the application of technology to enable their country to develop more speedily.Delivering a speech on behalf of the Education Minister, the Council Chair of Ghana Education Service (GES), Micheal Nsowah, praised the school for the beneficial role it plays in the educational sector.He indicated that the study of science is at the heart of the new GES curriculum and commended Galaxy International School for taking a step in this direction already.Mr Nsowah was happy that Galaxy international school had over the years, made teaching more practical than theory.On her part, a representative of the Adentan Municipal Directorate of Education, Mrs Kate Adjie, expressed surprise at the level of scientific innovations and creations of the students of the school.Mrs. Adjie, in whose jurisdiction Galaxy International School is situated, reiterated the need for schools to place special emphasis on vocational and technical education.Parents and students who attended the fair could not hide their joy over the scientific innovations displayed at the fair.See more photos below:
