Child advocacy NGO, PLAN International has climaxed its 75th Anniversary by hosting some 300 children at a party in the Central Region.
The gathering forms part the organization’s “count every child” campaign, a vital programme striving to provide children all over the world with birth certificates.
PLAN is collaborating with the Births and Deaths Registry to ensure 75,000 children are covered under the programme.
In an address, the Unit Manager Joseph Appiah noted that their team effort has seen tremendous growth and development in their operations from when they started their operations in Bawjiase in 1992.
He said the organization’s fundamental goal is to improve the quality of life of children and support the rights of the child to survival, protection, development and participation, focusing on deprived and marginalized children in rural areas who without support might not survive, let alone develop their full potentials to become responsible citizens in society.
Mr. Appiah added that Plan Ghana intends to place emphasis on the promotion of community mobilization to address negative socio- cultural attitudes and practices as well as strengthen partnership and enhance capacities of community groups.
“As we mark this occasion, let us all pause and reflect on our work and resolve to continue working even harder towards a world in which all children especially the marginalized would realize their potential in societies that respect human rights and dignity as specified in our Country Strategic Plan (CSP) and Program Unit Long Term Plans (PULTP) respectively” he told the ceremony.
