The much anticipated congress of the People’s National Convention would have to wait a while longer. The Accra High Court hearing the injunction suit against the congress has fixed December 21 to rule on preliminary objections raised by lawyer for some members who have taken the party to court. At a sitting on Wednesday, Dr Somtim Tobiga raised issues of conflict of interest against lawyer for the PNC, James Agalga. Dr Tobiga said Mr. Agalga cannot represent the party and the three other national executives who he has accused of embezzling party money. Earlier, Dr Tobiga prayed the court to adjourn the case on the grounds of ill-health. But the judge turned down his request. In an interview with Joy News’ Cyrus DeGraft Johnson Dr. Torbiga said his only quest is to make the party comply with the party’s constitution. According to him, the party held regional congress to elect regional executives at a time when constituency elections had not been held. “So who came from the constituencies to elect the executives?” he quizzed. He said the actions by the executives were in breach of the constitution, adding no member of the party has the right violate the constitution with impunity. Dr. Torbega accused the party’s chairman, Alhaji Ahmed Ramadan, General Secretary, Bernard Mornah and its 2008 flagbearer Edward Mahama, of embezzling the party’s finances. But counsel for the People’s National Convention Mr. James Agalga told Joy News Dr. Torbega has been playing delay tactics with the court. He was disappointed the court adjourned sittings merely because of the preliminary objections raised by the complainant. He said the court should have dealt with the case expeditiously and hinted he would after consultation with his client consider a motion to abridge the time fixed by the court.
