Police personnel Wednesday morning were engaged in a free-for-all-fight with airport security at the country’s international airport Wednesday.
The brawl is suspected to be a hangover from a misunderstanding between national security personnel and the airport security during President John Mills’ arrival from the United States Tuesday night.
The police had come to effect the arrest of one of the airport security officials who is reported to have misconducted himself during Mills’ arrival but other airport security officials allegedly resisted the arrest.
Joy News’ Anny Osabutey and Fiifi Koomon reported the scene as “bizarre” and a “block buster” display by the country’s security officers.
It is not clear if any arrests have been made.
The incident is said to have disrupted activities at the airport especially at the domestic terminal with some shattered glass doors.
Meanwhile, the board chairman of the Ghana Airport Company, Kuntu Blankson in an interview with Joy News’ Israel Laryea denied earlier reports the Airport has been shut down.
“It was not true that the airport has been shut down. It was operational,” he stated, explaining however that the domestic door at the Airport was closed leading to some tension.
He said “there is no cause for alarm” at the airport.
He described the brawl between the police officers and airport security officials as “operational differences” which have to be sorted out.
