In the wake of the escape of 10 suspects from police custody at Nkawkaw on Sunday, the Divisional Police Command has held a crisis meeting to ensure the provision of maximum security in police cells.
The three policemen, a corporal and two constables who were on duty at the time of the escape have been arrested and detained pending investigations.
The escapees are said to be among 28 suspects being held in police cells for allegedly committing various crimes including robbery.
In a telephone interview, the Divisional Crime Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police, William Daah said that one of the escapees (name withheld) had been arrested and was due to be arraigned before the circuit court at Mpraeso today.
He said the passage which facilitated the escape of the suspects has been sealed leaving only a small area to provide ventilation.
He also said the police have mounted a search for the arrest of the escapees and appealed to the people in nearby towns to report any suspicious persons to the security agencies.
