The Police in Kumasi are searching for a suspected arsonist who stole 2,800 Ghana Cedis and attempted to set an articulated truck ablaze at the Afia Kobi Market, also known as ‘Abinkyi’.
The driver’s mate, identified only as Yaw, had been put in charge of the parked vehicle which transported frozen foods to Kumasi from Accra.
Driver of the vehicle with registration GN 5026-11, Kwasi Ampoma, says he received a call from a strange voice on his mate’s phone, indicating Yaw had been hospitalized at Techiman.
The caller, according to him, indicated that Yaw was allegedly attacked and wounded by unknown persons.
Mr. Ampoma told Luv News he sensed something fishy about the information so he rushed to where the vehicle was parked only to find it in flames.
With the help of some volunteers he managed to quench the fire which had left a larger portion of the front compartment burnt.
An Amount of 2,800 Ghana Cedis hidden in the cabin had gone missing and the mate was nowhere to be found, confirming his suspicion.
A larger portion of the vehicle’s front compartment has been burnt.
Police have moved the vehicle to a different location as they begin investigations.
