The Upper East Regional Police Command has begun a search for an alleged murderer suspected to be seeking refuge in the Bolgatanga residence of former Vice-President Alhaji Aliu Mahama.
In an operation led by the Regional Crimes Officer, Superintendent Owusu Donkor, the police invaded and ransacked the home of the former Vice-President on Tuesday July 6, in search of the alleged killer.
The officers searched the various apartments of the house at dawn and picked up the caretaker of the house Shaibu Sulemana, and one Mohammed, who were later granted bail.
Citi News sources say the alleged murderer could be linked to the death of the late Ya Na Yakubu Andani.
But Superintendent Owusu Donkor who led the search operation told Citi News he could not confirm such reports.
He said the police was unaware that the house belonged to the former Vice-President. According to him, they only acted upon information received from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters in Accra.
“There was this information of one Zechariah who had committed murder, so based on the information we got from the CID headquarters, we begun a search for him after a warrant was issued. I cannot tell if he is linked to the Ya Na’s death because it is not my office that is directly investigating the issue. I am also not in the position to tell who the owner of the house is because that is not why I went there” he noted.
Meanwhile, the caretaker of the residence, Shaibu Sulemana confirmed to Citi News that the incident happened in the home of the former Vice-President.
He said he has since informed Alhaji Aliu Mahama of the incident, but he is yet to take an action on the matter.
