The Ghana Police Service has said it will sanction an officer who was secretly recorded begging for alms from a driver.
One of the two passengers in the vehicle is said to have recorded the conversation with the officer who ended up taking some cash from them. The recording has since gone viral.
The clip from the interaction between the police and the passengers goes as follows.
Female passenger [speaking in twi]: We don’t have any money on us unless we go to the ATM.
Police: So how much do you have for my supper? Supper is all I want”
Female Passenger: We can get you gh₵5.
The police officer snatches the money and allows the driver to drive on.
The Police Service has declined to name the officer in question.
But Director General of the Police Public Affairs Department, DCOP David Ampah Benin has said the service has indentified the officer and would act on the outcome of its investigation into the matter.
