Dean of Students for Local Governance Studies at the University Of Ghana, Dr. Eric Oduro Osae has called on politicians to support the District Assembly elections.
Speaking on Joynews Desk Dr. Oduro Osae advocated, that the participation of political parties will whip up interest in the decentralization process at the local level.

This according to him would boost the interest of the citizenry to take part in the district elections. He said citizenry participation in local level elections, in the exercise of their franchise at the local level is a platform for them to pour out their sentiments. District Assembly elections, he said bring governance closer to the people.
Again, he called on the electoral commission to sensitize people since they don’t know the essence of the district local election. He challenged the commission to come out with a clear time table as to when elections will take place.
“As a matter of urgency, they should therefore resolve this by recruiting agencies with the requisite experience to campaign on their behalf”, he said.

He however disagreed with the idea of voting on the same day for parliamentary/presidential and local district assembly elections. He insisted that citizens are not that enthused with district assembly elections because it has not been given the needed attention and prominence.
Touching on the national sanitation day, Dr Osae said, the government’s initiative on sanitation is highly commendable and called on the local government ministry to give district assemblies the needed push to fight the sanitation canker.
