Members of the Polytechnic Teachers’ Association of Ghana (POTAG) at the Kumasi Polytechnic are agitating delays in their migration unto the Single Spine Salary Structure. They accuse the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) of deliberately stalling the process, stating that POTAG has been treated unfairly over the years. The last meeting between the FWSC and POTAG Executives on 1st December, 2011 could not reach a consensus. The parties were to reconvene on the negotiating table a week later. The Kumasi Polytechnic teachers consider the failure of the Commission to continue with the negotiation process as “breach of faith”, especially when it had promised to migrate POTAG before the end of 2011. Local union Chairman, Edmond Oppong-Preprah told Luv News the polytechnic teachers have reached the end of their patience and wants the Commission to hasten the pace of negotiation. “Members, I can assure you, are highly agitated; they have been patient enough… and therefore they can no longer wait. We are not saying that we want to embark on strike; all that we are saying is that we should be called latest by Tuesday [January 17, 2012]”, he observed. Mr. Oppong-Peprah threatened POTAG members will “advise themselves” if nothing is heard from the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission after the deadline.
