The Progressive People's Party has called off today's planned anti-corruption demonstration. Convener for the demonstration, William Doworkpor confirmed on Joy FM's Super Morning Show barely an hour before the protest march. Greater Accra Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Freeman Tetteh toldJoy News although the Police had discussed with officials of the party about the need to rescind plans of embarking on the demonstration because they (Police) will not be able to provide them with security, the party did not cooperating. Police then went ahead to secure the Court order against the action. But according to the party, the Police's action is calculated to stop them from pursuing their constitutional right. The party had announced it was heading to Court to overturn the police order. Mr. Doworkpor however, said the decision to call off the anti-corruption protest march at the eleventh hour, stems from the fact that the police say the ban on demonstrations is still in force. He said the party is a law abiding one and will not do anything to jeorpadise the peace of the nation. The demonstrations, according to the party, were aimed at supporting reforms in Ghana’s governance system and to make incorruptible leadership a reality in the country. The PPP believes there is widespread corrupt activities within the country’s governance system.
